August 2018

This month, we want to raise enough funds for 50 kids to attend school! Will you help us reach this goal?

$264 provides a child with school supplies, textbooks, backpack, uniform, shoes, and a tutor for one school year.

A monthly gift of $22 will help fund our mission towards putting kids from La Union village through school.

If you would like to partner with us, visit our  website, cupsmission.com, click DONATE, and select our “SCHOOL-La Union” fund.

Greetings From Jan and Elizabeth Tuinier

We all know that June/July are the busiest months for the mission! Busy, but also awesome! It is always amazing to see who God sent us, in the different mission teams and how we can make a difference together here on the ground in the DR! Great summer staff, mission teams is what gives us a boost on the ground! As we head into August, our main focus is to get ‘back on track’ with our regular, year round Discipleship courses and family ministry.

The break in June and July from regular routine also gives a great opportunity to reflect and adjust anything needed!

Elizabeth is in the process of splitting the Girls Discipleship in Village Parisio into two different groups, a younger and older group, to have smaller groups and deeper teaching according to the age of the girls.

In La Union Abajo we hope to start with a Basketball Boys Discipleship Program, on the new basketball court!

And we continue the Men’s Bible study weekly, which is a personal highlight for me (Jan).

Currently we are finalizing a fresh, young, new team to keep the Saturday morning children’s program running year round! We have a lot of training to do, and many of you have seen the amazing children we serve there, and the amazing challenges that come with it! We pray for wisdom and creativity so that we can see a transformation in their hearts and lives.

As as family, we are getting back into the home-school routine as well! We are very excited to welcome Tori in September who has graciously agreed to come and help Grace Isabella with home-schooling, and I am sure she will help out in other parts of the mission too!

We send you our love and prayers! Thanks for partnering with us! We are all a link in a chain that is holding the anchor of faith as we drop our anchor into the lives of many people.

-Jan, Elizabeth and Grace Isabella.

Update From Mike Williams

Dear Partners,

I am happy to report that we had seven wonderful weeks of Bible camp for the children of the Dominican Republic with seven wonderful weeks of teams from the U.S. helping us make those camps a huge success. We are always grateful for our visiting teams. They are the lifeblood of our summer supply, our needed peanut butter, and our very needed  friendship. If you have never been on a summer team, you need to come. Today I am in Denton Maryland speaking at a camp, ensuring the work of crossover cups. Please keep me and my family in your prayers as we speak for the mission  throughout the next few weeks.

This mission has always been bigger than those of us who write the letters, build the buildings, or teach in the Bible camps. This mission is what it is because of wonderful folks like you. I want to say thank you in the largest way possible.

-Mike Williams

Update From Jack Eason

Dear Friends!

What a blessing you are to the Crossover Cups Mission. I thank God for your partnership today. Our summer was phenomenal with over 203 people coming down to see the mission, experience the love of the Dominican people, and hear the voice of God. We have trips in the fall and end of year if you want to join us.

It’s amazing how many people tell us that they hear God speak to them better in the Dominican. Maybe it’s the absence of technology, distractions, and the ability to focus on the task at hand. When it comes to changing the culture here, we know one of the important things to see happen is for children to be educated. Our focus this month is on helping more kids go to school specifically in the village of La Union Aba’jo, our newest work, where a lot of the families from the dump live. It’s the poorest of the poor and parents sometimes encourage their kids to go to work in the dump instead of going to school, because they need money and can’t afford school anyway. Would you help us get more children educated to change the trajectory of their future? To think for less than the cost of a soda or soft drink (.73 cents) each day, you can alter their future. Maybe you and your family would provide education for one, two, or five children today?

Visit cupsmission.com and click on DONATE to help.
