University Students!
Dear Crossover Malawi Family, Thank you everyone for your support and for everything that you are doing for Crossover Malawi. We have university students that have been part of the River of Life organization that have helped translate, assist in the Vocational school, and help out in the local church. There are so many bright students, but unfortunately, because of lack of funds, not everyone can afford to go to university. It has definitely been hard on them especially during the pandemic, because school fees are really expensive and many kids cannot afford the cost to be able to continue their education.
As of right now Crossover Malawi has been able to sponsor a couple of students in Malawi, so that they can continue their education. One of the students shared his testimony and how his life was drastically changed after being involved with the organization.
Peter lost his mother at a very young age and was not taken care of by his father. His father was not involved and left Peter to deal with all responsibilities, including taking care of his baby sister. Peter was forced to grow up earlier than most teenagers that we know, but sadly this is not out of the norm for most children in Malawi. When the community knew of all that happened in Peter's life, they took him in and raised him and his sister. When it came time for college, he did not have the money to pursue a career in nursing like he had always dreamed of. He thought that he would have to give up his love for education and learning, and throw it all away. Thankfully, the community around him and many of you, from our Crossover Malawi family answered the call! Peter was able to attend university and study Nursing and now he is currently working as a nurse. We have literally seen God's goodness and grace over his life and can continue to be encouraged that he can now put his younger sister through school! This is the change. This is the empowerment. We are able to see generational cycles being broken! What a powerful, beautiful and redeeming story. Please keep Peter in your prayers as he wants to continue his education, and has a desire to learn!
So what does this mean for other students who get out of high school? Many bright, and talented individuals do not believe that they have a future and want to give up on life. The River of Life vocational school was created for this reason. Although, we may not be able to send every person to college, at least we can provide them skills and training to be able to create their own businesses. We believe in empowering and equipping the youth to learn skills that will affect them for the better. Crossover Malawi commits to truly encouraging and educating those students in Malawi, for the hope of a better and brighter future.
